On Saturday, March 13, Emirates Stadium hosted its second ever fun-run for Arsenal's Charity of the Season, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. The event raised over £41,000 for one of the world's leading children's hospitals.
Three hundred runners took part in the ten-lap (6.4 kilometre) run around the home of the Gunners, including 50 participants in the children's race. They were joined by celebrity guest Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and Arsenal's mascot Gunnersaurus.
There was also lots of entertainment on the day including a demonstration from football trickster, Paul ‘Woody' Wood, penalty shoot outs and the chance for supporters to have their photo taken on a green screen with the whole Arsenal squad.
All participants were asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and most runners went above and beyond their call of duty. Several runners who raised well over £500 were deemed ‘Top Gunners' and will receive a personally signed certificate from an Arsenal first team player to celebrate their fundraising success.
Harry Potter star Tom Felton said: "Be a Gunner Be a Runner was a fantastic day out and raised an incredible amount of money to help the thousands of very sick young patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital."
The Be a Gunner. Be a Runner. event was part of Arsenal's season-long ‘Be a Gooner. Be a Giver.' campaign. Through this, the Club aims to raise £500,000 to fund a new Arsenal Lung Function Unit for children who have difficulty breathing or sleeping. These problems can mean that children may not grow properly and the Lung Function Unit is vitally important in their treatment.
The new Arsenal Lung Function Unit will be designed to help newborn babies right through to teenagers and will provide a modern and spacious environment in which to help children and their families.
