201st Islington Sea Scouts

Arsenal's Scouting neighbours help out Haiti

On the evening of Monday 15th March, 250 young Scouts who live and meet within walking distance of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium commenced a sponsored walk around the Gunners’ home, raising money for UNICEF, who are doing brilliant relief work in Haiti.

Young people in Scouting from the age of six years old took up the challenge of completing ten laps around the stadium and have so far raised £1,497 for UNICEF.

The event organiser, Mark Darlow, Group Scout Leader of the 201st Islington Sea Scouts, a Scout Group that meets in the shadow of Highbury Square in Avenell Road, said “All Scouts are really good at helping other people, and this adventure not only went some way to support UNICEF in Haiti, it will also helped our young people to keep fit and active”.

Kelly Owens, a 17 year old Explorer Scout, said "It's really good that I was one of the Scouts who  raised money to help people who are less fortunate than me.  I am sad that there have been so many deaths and injuries in Haiti. I hope that the money we raise by doing this sponsored walk will make a difference”.

The group have set up a JustGiving website page where Arsenal supporters can support their local scouts by donating whatever they can give. Just visit: http://www.justgiving.com/201st-Islingtonscouts-Haiti
