Pre-Match Report

U-23s: Everton v Arsenal - Preview

THE STORY SO FAR

Our under-23s go into Monday night's game against Everton having won five of their last six Premier League 2 matches.

Our recent strong run has seen us rise to fifth in the table, just three points behind London rivals Chelsea, with a game in hand over the Blues.

The Gunners have drawn just once this season in 14 games in this competition, winning seven times and losing on six occasions.

We last suffered a defeat when we visited Merseyside and lost 3-2 to Liverpool at Anfield on December 12, 2016.

THE OPPOSITION

Monday night’s hosts are currently top of the table, holding a three-point lead over second-placed Manchester City having played a game less.

The Toffees have won 11 of their 15 matches so far this season in Premier League 2.

Everton have won four straight PL2 matches, last failing to win on November 28, 2016, when they drew 1-1 with Southampton.

The Toffees also boast the biggest goal difference in the league, with their current total standing at +24.

ONE TO WATCH

Ben Sheaf goes into the game having recently signed a new contract with the club.

To date, England U-18 international Ben has represented us on 70 occasions, scoring five goals.

A versatile midfielder who has also played in defence, Ben is assured on the ball and was named as Player of the Tournament when our under-19s won the Durban U-19 International Cup.

LAST TIME WE MET

When Everton came to Meadow Park they faced a young Arsenal side, with a number of key players drafted into Arsene Wenger’s EFL Cup squad.

The Toffees hit us for five, with Kieran Dowell, Liam Walsh, Oumar Niasse and Callum Dyson all on the scoresheet.

Emile Smith-Rowe made his first appearance for the under-23s that evening.
