U-23s: Arsenal v Tottenham - Preview

THE STORY SO FAR

We go into Friday's north London derby off the back of a morale-boosting 4-1 win over London rivals Chelsea at London Colney last week.

Danny Welbeck, Reiss Nelson, Donyell Malen and Rob Holding were all on the scoresheet in last week’s assured display.

As a result, Steve Gatting’s side come into this game having won three of our last five games - a run of form which has seen us occupy fifth place in the Premier League 2 table.

We’re currently on the same points as fourth-placed Chelsea with victory against Tottenham guaranteed to lift us into third place, ahead of Liverpool.

THE OPPOSITION

Tottenham have risen to seventh in the Premier League 2 table after a slow start to the season.

Our north London rivals have lost just once in their last five outings - a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Merseyside.

They were last in action on February 20, picking up a 1-0 home win over Sunderland thanks to a goal from Kaziah Sterling.

ONE TO WATCH

Nelson has been in fine form for us this campaign, finding the net five times from midfield.

Three of those five strikes have come in PL2, with the most recent an impudent backheel against Chelsea in last week’s 4-1 victory.

Nelson - still just 17 - has become a regular fixture in our starting XI at this level and has proven himself to be an influential attacking force.

LAST TIME WE MET

In the reverse fixture back on November 18 of last year we ran out 2-0 winners thanks to strikes from Mathieu Debuchy and Stephy Mavididi.

Debuchy fired in the opener on his first competitive appearance of the season with a volley at the far post to hand us a half-time lead.

Tottenham midfielder Charlie Owens saw red during the second period, with Mavididi scoring a late penalty to seal the points.
