Pre-Match Report

Ladies: Liverpool v Arsenal - Preview

The season may only reach its conclusion against Liverpool on Sunday, but Pedro Martinez Losa is already turning his attentions towards the next campaign.

The Gunners have already announced the departures of Vicky Losada, Marta Corredera and Natalia Pablos Sanchon, with the return of Kim Little also confirmed.

With the switch to the winter calendar in the pipeline and the Spring Series on the horizon, Losa is now keen to offer more opportunities to young players.

"We know that what we want to do next season is give more opportunities to young players," he said. "What we want is for our young players to go and to let the players grow they need to feel free to make decisions. We need to give them a lot of confidence.

"We need to be patient with them, but they will always respond with a lot of quality. We have the best youth system in England by far, in terms of the players in the under-17s and we have to make it possible for those young players to have opportunities.

"I’ve spoken a lot about this since I joined the club, but I feel that now is the time to let the kids grow and give them all the confidence."

Despite winning 2-0 against Doncaster Belles last season, qualification for the Champions League was made mathematically impossible as a result of Chelsea’s win over Reading - but Losa remains upbeat.

"Obviously our objectives are to become more consistent and ultimately, win the league."

"We are still creating our own style and we have been moving forward on this one," the Spaniard said. “But at this club trophies are obviously very important.

"Not just winning the FA Cup, but the way that we won - that was very important for us. I think in terms of the Continental Cup - we deserved more from the semi-final against Man City.

"We never seemed to get lucky in the draws, in the FA Cup and Continental Cup it was always WSL 1 opponents and this is another difficulty that we had this year.

"Obviously our objectives are to become more consistent and ultimately, win the league."
