Pre-Match Report

Arsenal Ladies v Liverpool Ladies

We go into Thursday night’s clash with Liverpool having drawn 0-0 in our opening Spring Series match at Sunderland.

Pedro Martinez Losa handed starts to development squad graduates Lotte Wubben-Moy and Anna Patten for the game at the Hetton Centre.

Jodie Taylor led the attack, supported by Heather O’Reilly, Danielle Carter and Danielle van de Donk, but we were unable to make the breakthrough.

THE OPPOSITION

Liverpool arrive at the Hive having scored eight times in their opening two Spring Series fixtures.

The Reds recorded a 4-1 win away at Yeovil Town on the opening weekend of the competition, before beating Reading 4-2.

Liverpool defender Casey Stoney could face us for the first time since her departure at the end of last season.

ONE TO WATCH

Jordan Nobbs has proven herself to be increasingly crucial to Losa’s side in recent campaigns.

An energetic presence in central midfield, Nobbs has been looking to forge an understanding with new addition Kim Little.

After some encouraging early-season performances, Nobbs will be eager to record a first Spring Series victory on Thursday.

LAST TIME WE MET

We last played Liverpool in our final WSL fixture in early November 2016, winning 5-3 on Merseyside.

Despite falling behind after 18 minutes, we bounced back with Carter scoring twice in quick succession to hand us the advantage.

Jordan Nobbs made it 3-1, before Shanice van de Sanden reduced the deficit with 30 minutes remaining.

Chloe Kelly and Asisat Oshoala made sure of the victory, while former Gunner Caroline Weir was on target for the hosts.
