Summary

Alex Iwobi hit a brace as Arsenal maintained their unbeaten record in the Uefa Youth League with a fine 2-0 win against Bayern Munich.

The first half finished deadlocked as both sides struggled to create any meaningful goalscoring chances in a tightly-contested game.

But Iwobi made the breakthrough with a fine strike, before sealing the win with a neat finish after good work by Donyell Malen.

Setting the Scene

Andries Jonker made three changes to the side that beat Olympiacos three weeks earlier.

Stephy Mavididi, Kaylen Hinds and Chris Willock were unavailable because they were on international duty with England at the Under-17 World Cup in Chile.

In their place, Donyell Malen, Reiss Nelson and Ismael Bennacer started in attack.

First Half

Ben Sheaf had the game’s first chance when his whipped free-kick forced David Hundertmark into a fantastic save in the 15th minute.

Iwobi then combined well with Tafari Moore on the right flank to create space for a shot, but it was high and wide of the target.

Hugo Keto produced an acrobatic save just before half time to tip Yousef Emghames’ curled free-kick around the post.

Second Half

Arsenal started brightly but Krystian Bielik was unable to connect with Sheaf’s corner and flicked the ball wide of the post in the 53rd minute.

Iwobi put Jonker’s side ahead in spectacular fashion when he turned his marker and fired the ball into the top corner from outside the box.

The Nigeria international doubled the Gunners’ advantage five minutes later when he applied a controlled finish at the back post to wrap up a third straight win.
