Arsenal continued their defence of the Premier League Cup by
progressing through to the third round with a comfortable 4-0 win
at Manchester City.

The Gunners dominated the game from the first whistle, putting
their fluent passing style into full effect to control both
possession and the tempo of the game.

The first goal came after 15 minutes when Jayne Ludlow rose
highest to head in a corner from Rachel Yankey.

Rachel McArthur added a second seven minutes later, slotting in
at the far post after a good spell of passing and good work by
Yankey.

City continued to battle and put in a brave first-half
performance but went into the break 3-0 down as Ludlow grabbed her
second of the day after another cross into the box.

In the second period, substitute Gemma Davison came on and
terrorised the City defence with some penetrating runs before being
up-ended in the penalty area. Kelly Smith stepped up to convert
from the spot for her fourth goal in two games.

Arsenal now face Bristol City at home on Sunday, November 6,
just one week after a top-of-the-table clash at Everton in the
Women's Premier League.
