Arsenal started the defence of the League Cup with a re-arranged
home tie against Wolverhampton Ladies on Sunday winning 5 -
0.  Due to their European exploits this was only the second
game at Borehamwood this season.

Wolves started well but they hardly had time to settle when a
powerful shot from Alex Scott put the Gunners ahead in the 10th
minute.  The Wolves defence was under constant pressure and
keeper Natalie Hall made some good saves to keep them in the
game.

Despite the excellent attacking play the second goal did not
arrive until the 25 minute. Ludlow laying a ball across goal to
Kelly Smith, scored the first of her brace.  Smith got her
second in the 43rd minute sliding home a cross from Rachel
Yankey.  Just two minutes later Jayne Ludlow made it four,
heading in a cross from Pealling.

Sixty five minutes into the game Alex Scott's perfectly
placed ball through to Ciara Grant saw her score the only goal of
the second half. .After their excellent first half display Arsenal
dropped the tempo in the second half  but had done enough in
the first half to ensure that they went through to the second
round, where they will meet Manchester City (away).

Despite the superiority of the Arsenal team, the young Wolves
team acquitted themselves well and should take pride from their
excellent display especially the young goalkeeper Natalie Hall.
