Junior Gunners enjoy exciting cup night

The Capital One Cup came to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, September 26, with Junior Gunners being treated to some special surprises.

Earlier this month we launched some exciting competitions for all our Junior Gunners here on the JG website, on Facebook and via our JG Twitter channel, @JuniorGunners.

We kicked off all the JG action by inviting all JGs to take a tour on the ‘Gunners on the Road’ trailer - an interactive experience of Emirates Stadium and Arsenal’s London Colney training ground.

There was a penalty shoot-out with great prizes up for grabs – while one attendee was even awarded two tickets to an Arsenal match, as well as a JG membership, handed out by Gunnersaurus at half time!

The game itself saw young talents including Damian Martinez and Martin Angha make their full debuts, while Serge Gnabry also made his Arsenal bow.

Nico Yennaris was impressive in midfield, having been Arsenal’s mascot the last time the two sides met in 2000.

The Gunners won the game 6-1, thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrey Arshavin, Ignasi Miquel and two from Theo Walcott.

Off the pitch, 26 JGs were given the chance to go behind the scenes at the Emirates with 10 of them cheering the players on when they arrived at the stadium.  A further 12 kids were lucky enough to be part of the pre-match guard of honour, while four young Arsenal fans were taken on a unique post-match tour where they ran into Wojciech Szczesny, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta!

In addition, several JGs were invited to watch the game from an executive box – where they were greeted by Gunnersaurus and Szczesny!

And if that wasn’t enough, JG Tia was selected to interview Arsene Wenger before the match, while JG Flynn was mascot for the game.

It’s fair to say that a memorable night was held by all. But the best news is that we will be running many more competitions with similar prizes through the season.
