The BFG unveils our Dream Jar!

On Tuesday, July 12, we finally unveiled our Golden Phizzgunner Dream Jar at Emirates Stadium.

A group of 30 Junior Gunners and their guardians were invited down to the Emirates to join us for an exclusive event with our very own BFG (Big Friendly German) Per Mertesacker!

The JGs heard Per talk about one of his favourite childhood books and listened to him read the opening few pages of Roald Dahl’s famous story.

Junior Gunner Fahad dreamed up the winning name for our jar, and was invited on stage to meet Per and tell us a little more about how he came up with Golden Phizzgunner.

Per presented Fahad with his very own signed BFG shirt (signed by Per, not the giant!). Five other lucky JGs had their names drawn and won a copy of the BFG book also signed by Per.

Following a quick screening of the BFG film trailer to set the scene, the group went outside to prepare for the big unveil. Per and Fahad did the honours and gave everyone first glimpse of the newly installed Golden Phizzgunner Dreams Jar. Fahad’s name is proudly displayed on the plinth of the Jar, which will be featured above the Armoury Store until August 31.

Our jar makes up one of the 50 dotted across London to form The BFG Dream Jar Trail celebrating the highly anticipated release of the BFG film on July 22. The dream jars are supported by The Arsenal Foundation’s global charity partner Save the Children.

Inside the jar is a bronze statue, which shows an adult and two children running across a giant football. The adult represents Per Mertesacker and the children symbolise two of the inspirational children who have benefitted from The Arsenal Foundation-funded football pitches run by Save the Children in Iraq.
