A day in the life: Vito Mannone

Vito Mannone

In the Official Arsenal Magazine, Arsenal's first-team stars tell us about their daily routine. Read on to find out more about a day in the life of Vito Mannone!

What time do you usually get up in the morning?
Depends on the day, but on a day like today when we have training, it was about half eight or 8.45am.

What’s your first drink of the day?
I prefer a cup of tea in the morning.

What do you usually eat for breakfast?
Toast and honey.

Do you read the newspaper?
Yes, sometimes I read the Italian papers online. Gazzetta, things like that.

Before heading to training, is there anything else that you generally do?
No, straight to training usually.

How long does it take you to drive to the training ground?
Well today it took me two hours! I got stuck on the motorway, it was unbelievable. But usually it takes me just 15 minutes.

And what car do you drive there?
I drive a Range Rover.

Do you listen to music or the radio on the way in?
I listen to music, I plug my iPod in.

Do you always travel on your own?
Yes.

Are you usually one of the first in training – or one of the last?
Today I definitely wasn’t first! But no, most of the time I’m not too bad.

What do you keep in your locker?
Boots and gloves. That’s it really.

On the training pitches do you have any special warm up routines?
Yes I do, it’s a bit different for goalkeepers so we have a few specialised warm up routines before training starts.

What aspect of training do you enjoy the most?
Making good saves! I like the shot stopping, when we have the strikers shooting at us and we have to jump around everywhere.

Which team-mate do you think is the best trainer?
I’ll say Mikel Arteta.

Do you always head home straight after training?
No, I will usually go for lunch, sometimes do some more work in the gym, get treatment or whatever.

Who do you tend to sit with at lunch?
Well the English boys usually, I can understand them better! I don’t speak French, and there are no Italians, so that’s what I usually do!

What do you tend to do when you get home?
Not much, chill out with friends or family. I don’t tend to sleep in the afternoons unless training has been really hard.

Probably go on the computer, something like that.

What time do you go to bed?
It depends, but not usually later than midnight.
