What time do you usually get up in the morning?
7.30.

What’s your first drink of the day?
A still water.

What do you usually eat for breakfast?
I have juice – apple, orange or pear – a banana and toast with Spanish ham and then a coffee.

Do you read the newspaper?
Yes, I will read one of the Spanish sports newspapers on my iPad.

Before heading to training, is there anything else that you generally do?
I look after the kids and get my eldest, Gabi, dressed.

How long does it take you to drive to the training ground?
It takes 20 minutes.

And what car do you drive there?
A Mercedes CLS 63.

Do you listen to music or the radio on the way in?
Neither – I speak to my little boy, who I drop off at nursery.

Do you always travel on your own?
No, I have Gabi with me.

Are you usually one of the first in training – or one of the last?
One of the first, usually at around 9.15.

What do you keep in your locker?
Handwash, flip-flops a razor – stuff like that.

On the training pitches do you have any special warm-up routines?
Yes, I prepare with the physios and masseurs in the gym for around 30 minutes in the gym before training.

What aspect of training do you enjoy the most?
I like the ‘boxes’, which is 5 v 2, and generally the small sided games.

Which team-mate do you think is the best trainer?
Per Mertesacker is a really good trainer.

Do you always head home straight after training?
After training I go back in the gym, work with the physios and have a sauna or hot and cold baths.

Who do you tend to sit with at lunch?
Whoever is up there really.

What do you tend to do when you get home?
I will have a coffee with my wife and we will chat about the day. Then, because I am Spanish of course, I will have a siesta!

Tell us three things that you might do in the evening?
Well, I will pick Gabi up from nursery and then play with the kids and help with bath time. Then my wife and I might go out to dinner with team- mates or perhaps go to the cinema or theatre.

What’s the last thing you do before going to bed?
Brush my teeth!

What time do you go to bed?
11pm.

In bed do you tend to read, watch TV listen to music or go straight to sleep?
I’m usually asleep in five minutes. By the time I get to bed I’m really tired!
