What time do you usually get up in the morning?
Depending on what time we’re scheduled in for training, between 8.30 and nine o’clock.

What's your first drink of the day?
Squash or apple juice.

What do you usually eat for breakfast?
Toast and porridge.

Do you read the newspaper?
Not really, no.

Before heading to training, is there anything else that you generally do?
Just get myself ready.

How long does it take you to drive to the training ground?
Only about ten minutes, even in traffic.

And what car do you drive there?
Range Rover.

Do you listen to music in the car?
Yes. Anything that’s on my iPod.

Do you always travel on your own?
Yes, on my own.

Are you usually one of the first to training – or one of the last?
In between really.

What do you keep in your locker?
My washbag and a pair of boots. That’s all!

On the training pitches, do you have any special warm up routines?
No, I don’t do anything unusual before we start. I do whatever the coaches do.

What aspect of training do you enjoy the most?
The matches. It’s more fun when we play against each other and gets us sharp for the next game.

Which team-mate do you think is the best trainer?
Thomas Vermaelen, definitely.

After training what do you take into the shower?
Shampoo and a towel.


Who do you tend to sit with at lunch?
Most of the time it’s Ox, Theo and Carl.

Do you always go straight home after training – if not where might you go?
Usually I go home, but sometimes I’ll go to see a friend or go to one of the boy’s houses.

What do you tend to do when you get home?
Relax and watch some telly. Training is hard work!

What's the last thing you do before going to bed?
Brush my teeth!.

What time do you go to bed?
Just before midnight. I don’t read or listen to music – I go straight to sleep.
