Gunner's Diary

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all ok.

Another busy month for me, here’s what I have been up to.

Monday, September 21 2015
I was at Rotherfield Primary School for a Double Club assembly today. I went along to the school in Islington with our Community Team to promote the excellent Double Club initiative they run. It helps children with their reading and writing and of course they get to play football as well!

Tottenham 1 Arsenal 2
A great result as White Hart Lane tonight with two goals from Matthieu Flamini, the second a spectacular volley. We now face Sheffield Wednesday away in the next round.

Today was the official opening of the Market Road football centre in Islington, a project supported by Arsenal FC, the Premier League, the FA, Islington Council and the Football Foundation. The facility has undergone a £2.1 million refurbishment and now includes two resurfaced 11-a side 3G pitches, three additional small-sided pitches and a new changing room complex. I was invited along with council leaders and our very own legend Liam Brady. Hungerford Primary school and our Community Team were also there.

I love a wedding and today I went to St Mary’s Church in Stoke Newington to meet and greet the bride and groom plus their guests as they came out of the church. The groom was a big Arsenal fan and his bride (who had no idea I was waiting outside) is a Manchester United fan. After lots of pictures a double decker bus arrived to take everyone off to the reception.

Leicester City 2 Arsenal 5
The first hat-trick of his Arsenal career for Alexis Sanchez, with the other goals coming from Theo and Olivier. I watched the game back at the Emirates Stadium where they were screening the game to over 700 fans in the Royal Oak suite.

Tuesday, September 29 2015
Arsenal 2 Olympiacos 3
A very disappointing start to our European campaign now with two defeats in our opening games. Goals from Theo and Alexis were just not enough to see off a very determined Greek team. I met the teams before kick-off then went around the pitch and met the away fans who were in good spirits.

Wednesday, September 30 2015
Club Day at the Training Ground today and I had some filming to do with Laurent Koscielny and David Ospina. I also got in on the act with Calum and the Ox sending a message to fans in China.

Thursday, October 1 2015
Arsenal Ladies 1 Manchester City Ladies 0
I went down to Borehamwood for our Ladies Continental Cup quarter final tie against Manchester City. It was a very tight game with just one goal in it. The game was arranged in just a few days but there were still over 700 fans to entertain before kick-off and at half time giving away some goodies. We now play Birmingham City Ladies in the semi-final.

Friday, October 2 2015
We had a request for a marriage proposal come through to the Club which we helped organise today as part of the Stadium Tour route. Arsenal Media filmed the whole thing from start to finish and I had a part to play. They put a camera on my collar so I could capture some footage, and as I was leading the young lady out to pitch side from the dressing rooms her partner was waiting with the ring and champagne. She said yes!

Sunday, October 4 2015
Arsenal 3 Manchester United 0
Today’s game was live on Sky Sports. After meeting the players and popping around the pitch it was soon time for kick-off. And what a start we had, three goals in the space of 20 minutes. First Alexis with a delightful flick, then Mesut with a precise strike and to finish it off Alexis with a thunder bolt. Aaron should have made it four and we could have had more. At half time I went out for the penalty shootout and then at the end of the match went up to the boxes and Diamond Club. As you can imagine everyone was in a very good mood.
Our Ladies also had a league game today at Borehamwood against Birmingham City Ladies which they won 1-0.

Tuesday, October 6  2015
A very busy day today with three events taking place. First it was St Aidans Primary School in Hornsey where I did a school assembly for our Community Team. I hid behind some curtains on the stage and popped my head out to surprise all the boys and girls, then went around for some high fives and cuddles. Then back at the Emirates stadium my second event meeting and greeting people in the Woolwich before heading off to the Legends suite for another reception.

Wednesday, October 7 2015
Just one event today in the Royal Oak suite at the Stadium, meeting and greeting then taking the group to the Diamond Club for a drinks reception.

Saturday, October 10 2015
My second visit today to Holloway Women’s Prison for a family day. As you can imagine there were lots of children to entertain during the day so we took along some sports equipment and had bags of fun.

Sunday, October 2015
Cup semi-final day at Borehamwood and our Ladies were taking on Birmingham City for the second time in a week. The FA were running a fun day before kick-off so I arrived early to help out. Then it was inside to see the fans before kick-off. I popped out at half time to give some goodies away. There were quite a few Birmingham fans down to support their team. The final score was 3-1 to the Arsenal. We now play Notts County ladies in the final at Rotherham United’s ground on the November 1. I am excited about going to cheer them on.

Thanks all for now
Big hugs from Gunner
