Through its partnership with Arsenal, Imperial Bank has become the first bank in Kenya to produce and issue chip-technology cards to its customers. The Imperial Bank Arsenal Debit card, apart from being among the first of its kind in the region, is also attached to a loyalty programme meaning card holders can earn points every time they use their card. Points can be redeemed for exclusive Arsenal rewards and discounts at selected popular merchant outlets in the region.
At an event held in Nairobi to launch the partnership, Mr. Anwar Hajee, the Imperial Bank director, said of the card: “The card is Visa certified as Imperial Bank belongs to the VISA international payment network. It therefore offers millions of Arsenal fans and customers in the region, access to over 18,000 merchant outlets in Kenya, and over 27 million merchant outlets internationally. The card also features round-the-clock freedom of access to funds in customer accounts and to 1.9 million Visa ATMs across the globe in more than 200 countries. It is also accepted in over 1,000 PesaPoint and 900 Kenswitch ATMS locally.”
With the launch of the card, the bank is looking to connect with Arsenal’s huge fan-base in the region, and will offer a range of club-related benefits and incentives, to its customers and Arsenal fans in Kenya and Uganda. These include official Arsenal merchandise signed by the players, as well as tickets to see the team in action at Emirates Stadium in London.
Gordon Tannock, Head of Partner Services at Arsenal Football Club said of the partnership with Imperial Bank: “We are delighted to be partnering with Imperial Bank to provide Arsenal branded debit cards to our millions of fans across Kenya and Uganda. From our initial discussions several months ago it is evident that Imperial Bank is a trusted institution that puts its customers, communities and social responsibility at the heart of everything it does. It is this focus on their customers and supporting the communities in which they do business which align closely to the core values of Arsenal Football Club.”
“The Imperial Bank Arsenal Debit card marks an important milestone in the history of the bank and is particularly exciting as we celebrate 20 years of existence as a financial institution,” concluded Mr. Hajee, “As a company, Imperial Bank places a high premium on partnerships that not only enhance service delivery to our customers, but also have a positive impact on the communities where we do business. This is why we are especially proud of this association withArsenal, as it will not only see us issue the co-branded debit card to our customers, but will also support grass roots football through coaching clinics run by Arsenal, on behalf of the Bank. These coaching sessions will run in addition to our ongoing sponsorship activities with local organisations, to promote grassroots football.”
