A cult hero at Highbury following his move from Tottenham in March 1977, Willie Young won the respect of Arsenal fans for his character and determination. Strong in the tackle and imperious in the air, Young subdued Joe Jordan in the 1979 FA Cup final and Arsenal went on to beat Manchester United 3-2. However, Young is probably better known for the part he played in the following season's Wembley showpiece. Paul Allen seemed certain to become the youngest goalscorer in an FA Cup final when he burst through on goal, but Young's professional foul stopped the West Ham teenager in his tracks. Young left Arsenal in 1981 after playing 236 games and scoring 19 goals for the Club.
