Norman Sidey

Norman Sidey joined Arsenal as an amateur from Nunhead (in the Isthmian League) in March 1929 before turning professional two years later in February 1931.

The centre half made his league debut in a 2-0 defeat to Leeds United in December that year but found first-team opportunities limited at Highbury.

Sidey was part of the side that won the Charity Shield in both the 1933/34 and 1934/35 campaigns but was a more regular fixture in the reserves, where he made 228 appearances.

The defender helped Arsenal to Football Combination honours for four consecutive seasons between 1933 and 1938 before moving on in 1939.

In total, Sidey made 45 first-team starts for Arsenal. He served as a Pilot Officer in the RAF Regiment in the Second World War.
