Shaw was signed from Accrington Stanley in May 1970 before making his debut against Preston - a 3-0 defeat - in September 1907.

A member of the Players' Union, Shaw eventually took the captain's armband and featured 68 times during the First World War.

The defender became a key fixture at the Club and featured in Arsenal's first season at Highbury.

Shaw eventually hung up his boots in May 1923 to become manager of the reserves and also stepped in as acting manager in 1934 after the death of Herbert Chapman.

He became general assistant at Arsenal in 1947/48 before finally cutting his ties with the Club at the end of the 1955/56 campaign.
