Despite his tender years, Greenaway made his league debut in a 2-1 defeat to Notts County in September 1908 and quickly established himself as a regular that season.

Greenaway held down a regular place until the arrival of John ‘Jock’ Rutherford from Newcastle in 1913 saw his opportunities limited.

The winger served with the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War but played only three times in Arsenal's first two seasons after the war.

He was given a free transfer at the end of the 1920/21 campaign.
