Versatile midfielder Steve Gatting was a valuable member of Arsenal's squad that reached three successive FA Cup finals.
The brother of Middlesex and England cricketer Mike Gatting, he turned professional at Highbury in March 1977 and made his League debut in the Gunners' 1-0 victory at home to Southampton in October 1978.

He netted five goals in 58 First Division games before joining Brighton for £200,000 in September 1981 and played in the 1983 FA Cup final.
Ever-present in their 1987/88 promotion success, he later played for Charlton Athletic and Stamco. He has settled in Hove and his son Joe plays for Brighton.
