Archie Cross was a key member of Arsenal's promotion-winning side of 1903/04.

The full back played almost 150 times in a 10-year career with the Club after joining from Dartford in April 1900.

It took Cross two seasons to win a regular place in the first team after making his debut against Blackpool in October later that year.

The defender became a regular as the Gunners won their first ever promotion to the First Division with a second-place finish behind Preston North End.

A loyal servant throughout the early stages of the 20th century, Cross was largely used as back-up but still managed well over 100 appearances for the Club.

Between 1905 and 1907 he even had trials for England, amid triumphs with Arsenal in the West Kent League (1900/01, 1901/02) and South Eastern League (1907/08).

Cross transferred back to Dartford in summer 1910 before being reinstated as an amateur in 1911. He became director of the Kent club in 1921 and was a publican there for more than 40 years.
