Ju-Young Park

Ju-Young Park Profile

Born July 10, 1985
Daegu, South Korea
Position: Striker
Squad Number: 30
Previous Club(s) AS Monaco,FC Seoul

South Korean international forward Ju Young Park joined the Gunners from Monaco in August 2011.

The sharp-shooting attacker arrived with rich pedigree, having been a prolific scorer in Ligue 1 and with previous club FC Seoul – where he won the Korean League Cup in 2006. He demonstrated his finishing ability a few weeks after signing, scoring a fine goal against Bolton Wanderers in a Capital One Cup clash that October. Park went on to make his Premier League debut against Manchester United in January 2012, but in general found his opportunities limited due mainly to the form of Robin van Persie in the Arsenal attack.

Last term, he was loaned to Spanish side Celta Vigo – scoring four goals in 25 games for the Galician side and, on top of that, achieving the accolade of becoming the first South Korean to find the net in La Liga.

Park has captained the South Korea national team, for which he has enjoyed plenty of success. He scored a vital goal against Nigeria in the 2010 World Cup, and netted six times in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. In addition, he helped them to third place at the 2012 Olympic Games – scoring twice, including a goal in the bronze medal match. With his country having qualified for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, he will have his eye on another exciting campaign at that level.

Park will be hoping to work his way back into the first-team setup this season, making use of his turn of pace, sound technical skills and sure touch in front of goal.
