Joel Campbell

Joel joined Arsenal from Deportivo Saprissa in August 2011.

The 20-year-old, who was in the Costa Rica squad for the 2011 Copa America and the Under-20 World Cup, will spend this season on loan in La Liga with Real Betis.

Born in the Costa Rican capital San Jose, Campbell is predominantly left-footed and has made a number of full international appearances. Now a regular for Costa Rica's senior team, Joel has scored against the likes of Spain and Wales.

He had two seasons in his native Primera Division, where he played for Deportivo Saprissa and on loan at Puntarenas, making eight league appearances in total.

The striker spent the 2011/12 season on loan in Ligue 1 with Lorient, where he scored four goals in 27 appearances.

July

Joel joined La Liga side Real Betis on loan until the end of the season.

August

Joel made his Real Betis debut as a second-half substitute in their 2-1 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano.

September

Joel was sent off in Real Betis' defeat to Atletico Madrid. After being introduced as a second-half substitute, he was shown two yellow cards in the space of just 19 minutes. It was his only appearance of the month.

October

Joel has featured on a regular basis to help Real Betis’ impressive start to the season.

November

Joel was on target as Costa Rica drew with Bolivia in a friendly. He also made two starts for high-flying Real Betis in the Primera Division.

December

Joel enjoyed a successful December, making five appearances for Real Betis and scoring the winner in their game against Deportivo La Coruna.
