The NBA may be about to kick off its glamorous All-Star weekend, but according to Arsène Wenger, you shouldn’t expect to see anything like that in football.
The festivities in Houston include everything from exhibitions involving rising stars and former stars to the famed "Slam-Dunk" competition. Arsenal supporters will even have a connection to the event: both Luol Deng and Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls count themselves as Arsenal fans.
But to Wenger, All-Star weekend is suited for the flash of the NBA, but perhaps not for the Premier League.
"We have a different culture," the manager said. "Our culture here is based on competing for something, and less show.
"We always want to see Blackburn against Arsenal, because there is something to go for because the tradition is there, the competition is there, and the result has a meaning.
"I believe people in Europe want real competition."Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source 15 Feb 2013
