Very little seems to be going our way at the moment and there is no doubt it feels a little bit like 'us against the world' right now. But that makes me all the more defiant and determined.
After all... we are Arsenal.
Walking across a field early on Saturday morning with the sunrise doing its best to cure a quite considerably sore head is not a regular way to head off to a game but once a bacon roll and strong coffee were acquired for the train journey thoughts very much became clearer about the game ahead.
Liverpool being a tough game is nothing new. Since heading to the corresponding fixture for the first time well over 30 years ago it has never been anything different. So the sense that we had a tricky day ahead was hardly surprising.
Once again I felt the atmosphere was pretty good on Saturday, with the vast majority getting behind the team. And in a tight game I felt there was only one team that looked like they might take the three points until we were reduced to ten men as the match reached its latter stages.
Our visitors had rarely threatened, one header in the first half being the only attempt I can remember of note and this despite losing yet another defender to injury (our fourth in a week!) midway through the first period.
Shortly before we went down to ten RVP had a great chance to put us into the lead but after we were reduced in numbers the game changed. We were then relying on a little bit of Miss Luck's help to go with our hard work but yet again she betrayed us.
Not only was the first goal marginally offside but after a solid defensive display one of those 'could have gone anywhere' ricochets ended up in the back of the net.
For me it was a harsh and undeserved end to a game where our performance definitely merited something from it. Either way, it has not been the best of starts to what we all knew was going to be a tough and interesting week.
That continues with our crucial second leg out in Italy on Wednesday.
The weather forecast is good, I know the refreshment will be equally as appealing and my nerves are already shot!
Come on you Gooners!
