More than anything else, a good solid victory was just what the doctor ordered on Saturday and a general sense of satisfaction could definitely be felt walking away from the ground.
For me the most crucial moment in the whole match came in the opening stages. Chezz made a quite incredible save from what turned out to be pretty much Bolton's only chance of the afternoon and not going behind early on was absolutely essential I feel.
Although the first half seemed to be missing something, we have been to many home games down the years where scoring that opening goal completely changes the game. Gerv enjoyed our best opening and the opportunity to grab that lead that always sees away teams become a little more adventurous, in turn creating more gaps for us to try and take advantage of. Unfortunately the chance went begging and we went into the break with plenty to do to grab all three points.
When RVP smashed in his and our opener you could really feel the release of pressure and as is often the case the whole team started to express themselves as a consequence.
Of course, Bolton going down to ten men helped but it was a foul, Wheater was the last man and who is to say that Theo would not have gone on to double our lead had he not been taken down?
Of course, we have all seen games where an extra man doesn't necessarily dictate the result, both when that situation has gone for us and against. On this occasion however, we kept both our concentration and shape and RVP and Songy completed the scoring on a good day all round.
With the former, of course, came entry into that elite bunch of players who have scored 100 goals for our great club. A fine achievement for a player really on top of his game right now. Being our captain is something we can all see he is extremely proud of. Let's all hope he goes on to lead us to great things as we move forward.
With the matches coming thick and fast, game two of this season's Champions League group stage adventure is next as we take on Olympiacos. Down the years three points from each of your home games in this competition has always proved crucial.
We can help the team achieve just that.
Come on you mighty reds!
