If forced to use four words to describe our trip to Villa Park on Saturday they would all begin with the same letter.
From the moment I left my front door early in the morning until arriving home just after midnight it did not stop raining. With the game not really improving the whole day, damp, dull, dreary and disappointing would probably sum it up.
In the usual fashion we did our utmost to make the most of our latest trip, plenty of pre-match refreshment in our usual Villa Park haunt making sure the rain didn't dampen the spirits too much. After two good wins on the bounce we also had every right to go into the ground with confidence.
The game overall ,however, was instantly forgettable, lots and lots of possession but few clear-cut chances. For that reason alone a 0-0 draw was probably the correct outcome. An away point in the bag but having looked in total control for lengthy spells throughout it really was a game where we should have come away with all three.
Laurent enjoyed our best chance in the first period while Gervinho was within a whisker of nicking a winner late on. Chezz made one fingertip save too, putting a long-distance effort onto the bar, emphasising that on another day we could have gone home with nothing.
Overall it makes Wednesday night's tough trip to Goodison Park even more crucial. Last season saw us grind out a victory, defending against heavy pressure after deservedly taking an early lead. With our hosts enjoying a positive start to the season it will no doubt be even tougher up there this time round.
Us travelling Gooners (or 'managers' if you like!) will do our best as always to help the team achieve what we all want from the game.
