The opening game of any season is always met with too much hype in my opinion, both before a ball is kicked and immediately after events have concluded. This doesn't mean that I don't understand the levels of anticipation when the new season is upon us.

Every football fan worldwide looks forward to the first game. Despite the season being very long, May seems such a long time ago to all us believers! With reportedly the hottest day of the year to accompany all the eager excitement there was an incredible buzz around the streets of N5.

Our home game matchday routines are followed with precision by most of us, however on this occasion my own pre-match took a slightly different route.

The V Festival in Essex meant three nights in a tent for me so after the first had been successfully 'negotiated' it was a train journey into Liverpool Street that started my day.

Arrival to my usual pre-match haunt by late morning soon had the usual routine back on track and it was fantastic to catch up with all those friends I hadn't seen over the summer over a few beers.

As for the game, I think we created enough to have won. With Abou and all three of our new signings going close on more than one occasion that winning goal is all we lacked from a satisfactory opening day.

Taking the positives we kept a comfortable clean sheet and we saw enough to suggest we can do well this season. It’s best to leave me alone if a result hasn't gone well but my enjoyment in a few fields in Essex didn't seem to wane over the next 36 hours so we must have done something right!

Of course we all wanted an opening-day victory but we take a point and move on to the tough trip to Stoke this Sunday.

With passion running through my veins... I'll see you there.

Come on you Gooners!
