Getting in at four o'clock in the morning with a normal day's work to follow is something I struggle with a bit these days. It didn't seem to hurt half as much a few years ago but as difficult as it is, I guess I'm
admitting to not getting any younger!
As football fans we also know a defeat makes those journeys feel all the longer and the lack of sleep more painful. Our latest trip to Old Trafford falls into that category.
Did we deserve to lose the game? In my opinion probably not as we limited our hosts to very few opportunities considering who we were playing and we spent long periods probing, initially for that opener but eventually for an equaliser. Even the goal could be considered a freak but sometimes that's just the way it goes.
Overall, I don't think we deserved to win either but more down to the fact that United were defensively very solid on the night than anything else. A draw for me would have been about right and I think we all would have been satisfied with that.
The way this crazy season has developed so far means it is a defeat that could have been far more damaging, results this weekend will determine just how big the gap is between those fighting it out at the top as we head into the important Christmas period.
Our part in that simply has to be a win over Stoke City, a team that never fails to give their opponents a tough encounter.
Before all that we will find out of course where we will be heading off to come March in the Champions League. Germany or Spain are our only two potential destinations and, simply because it has been a long time since our last visit, my preferred choice would be Schalke.
Why is it however, that I can't help but suspect it will be Barcelona!
Come on you reds!!
