Often games like Saturday's at Ewood Park can be even more satisfying than a comfortable victory. We have found ourselves with a frustrating journey home on numerous occasions down the years, pretty much all of which seem to be from the north-west!
When we have enjoyed a period where we play such fantastic football, a defeat to a team who play with a different style can leave you feeling extremely hard done by even on those days where our hosts have enjoyed the Lion’s share of the games' attacking moments.
I have often scratched my head as to why this is but in summary I believe it is down to the fact none of the country's most successful sides totally play in this way. This leads to us thinking those opponents are inferior and so they have no right to beat us!
On our day we are capable of beating anyone in the world, we all know that, however against every Premier League side we have to earn that right to play our football by going head-to-head on the commitment and desire front.
On Saturday we did just that and thoroughly deserved our three points. Theo's opener was an absolute cracker and hopefully another example of his growing confidence while the Meerkat's winner finished off another sweeping move.
Much more however, we weathered the incredible aerial attack endured from long balls, set pieces and throw-ins at various points in the match and that above all else earned us the three points.
Driving home mid-afternoon feeling like we had already been up for a full day, it is incredible how a victory can make it feel like a thoroughly satisfying day. I say this as I also feel it is worth mentioning our incredible travelling support on Saturday.
Although I appreciate we have many Gooners all over the UK, all the ingredients were there for a lower following: a lunchtime kick-off, way up in the north west and live on the TV. Yet almost five thousand of us got there to sing us on to victory.
