Thursday 24th February
Every season has games like Wednesday night, especially it seems as the season reaches its latter stages. More important than anything else when they do come around is to take away those three big points. I really got the impression as we all headed home that every one of us was hugely aware of this fact.
For me personally it ended the day on a major high when earlier on it looked rubbish!
Late afternoon I was stuck in a motorway queue where I had my engine off for more than two hours. After 22 years since I last missed one, I genuinely thought I wasn't going to make the game. Heading through the turnstiles my feelings were graced with a great deal of relief as well as all the usual pre-match emotions.
We came out of the blocks like Usain Bolt, nearly scoring four times in the opening ten minutes. When Theo smashed the inside of the post I already feared the worst considering the day I'd had!
Seb's header gave us the all-important lead our start deserved and it looked like it could be an exciting night offensively.
Cesc left the field and the mood changed like it would whenever your captain departs, especially with our incredible schedule. It became hugely apparent over the next few minutes we were in for a huge battle for the rest of the evening.
When we have perhaps wilted on previous occasions the fact we came out the other end of an aerial bombardment unscathed was hugely satisfying. Again I think we all knew that as headed home.
Theo's injury is extremely disappointing of course, all we can hope is it is not serious enough to keep him out for too long. If we are going to keep competing on all fronts every single member of our squad will have a massive role to play. So what's next? The small matter of a trip down Wembley Way!
Get your red and white hats on boys and girls, wherever you are all around the globe. Wear with pride and sing your hearts out!
Come on you mighty reds!
