While enjoying a cold one pre-match last night, much of the discussion surrounded the emphatic football played by Barcelona on Tuesday night as they thumped Panathinaikos. Admittedly it was enjoyable to watch but was it any better than our superb display 24 hours later? I think not!

If you are one of those who likes to watch the beautiful game played with a combination of skill, pace, power and above all else exquisite passing, London N5 was the place to be last night. Every single person inside the stadium departed knowing it was an absolute pleasure to be there.

Of course when analysing any thumping victory, questions will be asked as to the quality of opponent on the night but sometimes you have to just admit we were very very good. After all, our visitors had already dumped both Celtic and, extremely impressively, Seville out of Europe in the two previous rounds.

With every player making a considerable contribution to both keeping a clean sheet and a devastating attacking display it is impossible to single out any one player for individual praise. Overall it was a wonderful team effort and gets us off to the perfect start in our group.

Sunderland will be a whole different affair of course with the Stadium of Light seeing mixed fortunes for us down the years. The evening kick-off is always one that sees many of us entering the stadium in high spirits and with a night out in nearby Newcastle also on the cards for our own group of away Gooners it promises to be a fine weekend off the pitch.

The mood however, will very much be influenced by events on the pitch where once again we will need to be at our best to take another important three points.

Come on you yellows!
