Despite them taking place at pretty much the same time every season I still find these international breaks a bit weird. Less than a fifth of the way into the season and we 'enjoy' our second, accompanied by so much autumnal sunshine that it feels like late May when things are all over!

Being an Arsenal-free weekend, a number of Supporters Clubs have taken the opportunity to hold their annual dinners, not only a chance to get together and enjoy fellow Gooners' company but also a fine way to increase the charity pot for this season.

From what I understand the Dover event for example was a huge success as it is every season, while a few of our Maidstone crew descended upon Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh for a weekend that included the Scottish boys and girls' bash on the Friday.

I am sure our hosts won’t be offended if I say the least entertaining part of the evening was their national team's visit to the Czech Republic shown on a big screen but fine food and wine, great company that included Charlie Nicholas and Bob Wilson and most importantly another bumper evening for charity meant it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

For me personally, the chance to reminisce with a hero from the Eighties was quite special, Charlie's goals at White Hart Lane, Old Trafford, St James Park and of course Wembley being discussed at length!

A massive thanks to the Scottish Gooners for their hospitality. We'll be back I'm sure!

The remainder of the weekend was spent enjoying the sights and delights of what is a quite beautiful city before returning home and looking forward to this Saturday's visit of Birmingham City.

If our last home outing doesn't serve as a warning that we need to be on top of our game then nothing will!

Our league season starts here.
