Rarely do we play two games in two days, in fact since way back the only occasion tends to be in one of these pre-season tournaments. In its fourth year, the fact near on 120,000 people came through the turnstiles over the weekend proves the Emirates Cup is still a popular attraction.
One of the main reasons of course is the high quality, big names and hugely supported clubs involved each year. This season's football extravaganza was no different.
The Saturday is always a little bit subdued I feel, certainly compared to Sunday but with the tournament winners being decided on day two, the reason is obvious.
Winning the tournament is satisfying of course but overall the weekend is about getting full match fitness ever closer. I've mentioned it before but competitiveness dictates I would want us to win a Scrabble tournament let alone anything involving this great sport of ours!
From our point of view, overall our tournament victory could have been considerably more comfortable. We could and should have beaten Milan on Saturday well before and after they equalised from their only real chance of the game and Celtic should not have been given the glimmer of hope they
were allowed late on either.
A tournament then with 13 goals and a little bit of silverware at the end of it, we can ask for little more than that.
