In October 2008 Arsenal FC submitted a full planning application for:

  • Demolition of the existing buildings and the redevelopment of the site to provide a re-aligned Queensland Road and two new buildings to the North and South.
  • The building to the South would be up to six storeys in height and provide 218 residential units as well as 345 m2 of commercial space capable of occupation for any combination of Class A1/A2/A3/A4/B1 uses.
  • The building to the North would incorporate five towers providing 10 to 15 floors of residential accommodation each above a plinth of mainly non-residential space. It would comprise 516 residential units, 1,600 m2 sports centre for Arsenal Football Club, 1,140 m2 of commercial space capable of occupation for any combination of Class A1/A2/A3/A4/B1 uses and 179 car parking spaces.
  • The proposal is a similar form of development to that previously approved by Islington Council in 2002 and 2005 and has evolved through discussions with the London Borough of Islington and in response to the views expressed by the community during the public consultation organised by Arsenal.

    Following extensive public consultation Arsenal has responded positively to the concerns expressed by local residents and the Council. In particular, the height of the proposed residential towers has been significantly reduced and the proposal now includes an Arsenal sports centre which will operate on a similar basis as the former JVC Centre.
