Foundation Learning is a new national programme for local young people. In partnership with Springboard Islington, the Arsenal Foundation Learning programme has been running a year and half in Islington. The programme formally known as E2E (Entry 2 Employment) is open to young people aged 16-19 and for people up to age 24 with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
The programme enables young people take part in learning that supports them in achieving qualifications and progress to positive destinations both at work and life. Springboard offers learners a personalised curriculum that enables them to undertake the mix of qualifications and activities which are most appropriate for their individual needs. All learners have access to a comprehensive range of learning and development opportunities that include:
- Vocational training e.g. NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership
- Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and ICT
- Employability and personal development
The course is delivered full time at Springboard Islington with twice weekly sports sessions at the club with a view to helping delivery on some of Arsenal in the Communities local sports programmes. Personal football development training to improve the individuals own skills alongside participating in a football team that’s entered in a weekly college football league (British Colleges Sport) is another opportunity for all participants.

Sport and Learning
This is a unique project that offers a full time alternative to mainstream education for students in Years 10 & 11 that have been, or are at risk of being excluded from mainstream education.
Using sport as the initial route for engagement, pupils are introduced to a range of academic and sporting qualifications including GCSEs, Sport Leaders Awards and ICT qualifications.
Our partners in this project are Springboard Islington Trust and Cambridge Education @ Islington.
