Inamoto
Arsenal's first and only Japanese player. Junichi Inamoto moved
to Highbury in the summer of 2001 and was at the Club when Wenger
led Arsenal to the Double less than a year later. However, Inamoto
played just four times that season and did not appear at all in the
Premiership. He impressed at the World Cup in his homeland but was
soon on his way to Fulham.
Injuries
Steve Morrow will be remembered for his decisive goal in the 1993
Coca Cola Cup but also for the bizarre injury he suffered soon
after the final whistle. The matchwinner was hoisted aloft by Tony
Adams, fell over the captain's shoulder and broke his arm on
the Wembley turf. Morrow missed the trophy presentation and
received his medal at Wembley when the team played in the FA Cup
Final later that year.
Invicta Ground
In 1890, Arsenal moved across Plumstead High Street to a new ground
which already had a stand, terraces and dressing rooms - the
Invicta. At their previous ground Arsenal had to rope off the pitch
and bring in wagons for crowds of 500 to 1,000. Those days seemed
behind the Club, but a huge increase on the rent forced Arsenal to
move again in 1893.
Invincibles
Preston's team of 1888-89 were tagged 'The Invincibles'
after completing an unbeaten top-flight season. Their astonishing
feat remained unique until last season, when Arsène Wenger's
Gunners went through the entire Premiership campaign without
tasting defeat. Even more impressively, Arsenal had to play 38
games compared to Preston's 22 in the 19th century.
