Arsenal's last visit to Goodison Park in the League Cup was a memorable encounter in the 1988 Semi-Final first leg.
Arsenal arrived in Merseyside as the League Cup holders after a dramatic 2-1 Final victory over Everton's local rivals Liverpool the previous season.
In a tight and nervous encounter the deadlock was broken by an acrobatic finish from one of the 1987 League Cup Final heroes, Perry Groves.
George Graham's side took that one-goal advantage into the second leg where, despite Martin Hayes missing a penalty, goals from Michael Thomas, David Rocastle and Alan Smith gave us a 3-1 win and a place in the Final against Luton Town.
Although Graham's famous back four had conceded just one goal in their seven-game run to the final, Luton Town took their chances against a depleted back line to win 3-2 at Wembley.Arsenal v Everton - League Cup meetings at a glance P W D L F A 10 5 3 2 14 7 Arsenal v Everton - A complete League Cup record Date Competition Round H/A/N Opposition W/D/L F A 09-11-2004 League Cup 4th H Everton W 3 1 24-02-1988 League Cup Semi-final 2nd leg H Everton W 3 1 07-02-1988 League Cup Semi-final 1st leg A Everton W 1 0 23-11-1982 League Cup 3rd Replay H Everton W 3 0 09-11-1982 League Cup 3rd A Everton D 1 1 23-09-1975 League Cup 2nd Replay H Everton L 0 1 09-09-1975 League Cup 2nd A Everton D 2 2 05-09-1972 League Cup 2nd H Everton W 1 0 01-10-1969 League Cup 3rd Replay A Everton L 0 1 24-09-1969 League Cup 3rd H Everton D 0 0 Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
